The ruthless hunt of the red kite

I was in the shade, waiting to see the eagles that often use the area as their hunting ground. Instead, it was a red kite, this time, to put on a show, demonstrating its predatory qualities.

I noticed it flying over the pond several times, now very low due to the few summer rains, populated by geese, herons, lapwings, ducks and starlings.

A lightning change of direction, and it dives, creating havoc among all the other birds that take off in flight squealing in fear.

But the kite has decided to put fish on the menu today and, with its sharp claws, grabs one before running away to go and enjoy it.

And, little by little, calm returns over the pond.

P.S. Some photos are not in focus, but they give an idea of what happened in the blink of an eye. All, by the way, taken freehand.
