Retracing Wandering Italia: Unforgettable Sunrise at Rocca Calascio
The seventh stage, from Rocca Calascio to Campo Imperatore, must inevitably be divided into two parts because, if on the one hand the actual trekking was, yes, demanding but absolutely rewarding, the dawn in Rocca Calascio was not certainly less.
The first lights of the day filter the curtain; I go out still sleepy without immediately realising where I was; then the mountains’ dark outlines slowly take shape as the sky begins to colour in the east, pushing the night and its stars away.
I hurry to go up to the Rocca and not miss the miracle of a new day that begins, this time from one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen and today, all for me.
I turn and turn; I look out over one valley and then the other trying not to miss anything, not even a moment that already becomes an unforgettable memory: important, essential moments.
For a moment, and only a moment, you understand the meaning of your journey and find the answers to the previous questions, no longer subject to adverse fate but sure of being able to face anything.
In 2018 I embarked on a journey, on foot and alone, from the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise towards Trieste, going up the Apennines and facing the Alps.
