Ho avuto la fortuna di poter ammirare e fotografare anche il bellissimo saltimpalo (Saxicola rubicola), uno dei più piccoli Muscicapidae, lungo circa 12 cm, con un peso di 13 grammi e un’apertura alare di 22 cm.
Anche questa specie, come potete notare dalle foto, presenta uno spiccato dimorfismo sessuale: il maschio ha colori più forti, con mento e testa neri e collo bianco, mentre le femmine, come i giovani, hanno delle striature sulla parte superiore del corpo e non presentano gli stessi colori del maschio.
In Svezia i saltimpalo sono stati avvistati sin dal 1950, ma solo dai primi anni 2000 si sono potuti notare alcuni piccoli nuclei stabilirsi nel sud del Paese per la riproduzione e la totale popolazione svedese è stata stimata in circa 100 individui sessualmente maturi.
Direi che è stata proprio una gran fortuna poterne vedere due!

I was lucky enough to be able to admire and photograph the beautiful European stonechat (Saxicola rubicola), one of the smallest Muscicapidae, about 12 cm long, with a weight of 13 grams and a wingspan of 22 cm.
Also this species, as you can see from the photos, has a marked sexual dimorphism: the male has stronger colours, with black chin and head and white neck, while the females, like juveniles, have streaks on the upper part of the body and they don’t have the same colours as the male.
In Sweden, the European stonechat have been sighted since 1950, but only from the early 2000s it was possible to notice some small groups breeding in the south of the Country and the total Swedish population has been estimated at about 100 sexually mature individuals.
I would say I was very lucky to be able to see two!
