Tra gli uccelli che ho avvistato finora, uno a mio avviso molto carino e tenero è sicuramente il piovanello (Calidris ferruginea), forse per la sua forma un po’ goffa che gli dona un’aria simpatica.
Ma non lasciamoci influenzare dalle apparenze.

Infatti, se pur di piccole dimensioni – lunghezza 18-23 cm, apertura alare 38-41 cm, peso circa 60 grammi – e dalla forma appunto un po’ tozza, questo uccello riesce a percorrere fino a 15.000 km durante le sue migrazioni dalla tundra della zona artica siberiana all’Africa, ma anche Asia, Australia e Nuova Zelanda.

Essendo la Svezia uno, se non forse il principale punto di osservazione del flusso migratorio europeo, non è difficile incontrarlo, doprattutto lungo le coste dove si ciba di insetti e piccoli invertebrati.

Non è a rischio, ma il piovanello è una delle specie a cui si applica l’Accordo sulla conservazione degli uccelli acquatici migratori afro-eurasiatici (AEWA).

Among the birds I have seen so far, one in my opinion very cute and sweet is certainly the curlew sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea), perhaps due to its somewhat clumsy shape that gives it a funny look.
But let us not be swayed by appearances.

In fact, even if small in size – length 18-23 cm, wingspan 38-41 cm, weight about 60 grams – and with a somewhat squat shape, this bird can travel up to 15,000 km during its migrations from the tundra of Arctic Siberia to Africa, but also Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Since Sweden is one, if not perhaps the main observation point of the European migratory flow, it is not difficult to spot it, especially along the coasts where it feeds on insects and small invertebrates.

It is not endangered, but the sandpiper is one of the species to which the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) applies.
