Sono passato a trovare una vecchia amica, la poiana calzata (Buteo lagopus).
Non essendo un rapace prettamente territoriale, era un po’ che non la vedevo e pensavo che si fosse trasferita altrove, magari scacciata dalle aquile che vivono non molto distante; invece, con grande sorpresa e gioia nel rivederla, l’ho ritrovata al solito posto.
All’inizio si è alzata in volo ed è scappata dietro una collina, poi è tornata proprio verso di me, dandomi la possibilità di questi scatti molto soddisfacenti.

Una curiosità: il nome è dovuto al fatto che presenta molte più piume vicino alle zampe che la poiana comune. Sono comunque molto simili e spesso, soprattutto se in volo e distanti, è facile confonderle.
La poiana calzata, però, ha un altro segno distintivo, ossia ha colori più contrastati e presenta un bellissima e caratteristico petto molto più chiaro.

I went to meet an old friend, the rough-legged buzzard (Buteo lagopus) .
Not being a purely territorial bird of prey, I hadn’t seen it for a while and thought that it had moved elsewhere, perhaps chaased by eagles that live not far away; instead, with great surprise and joy in seeing it again, I found it at the usual place.
At first it got up in flight and ran away behind a hill, then it came right back to me, giving me the possibility of these very satisfying shots.

A curiosity: the name is due to the fact that it has many more feathers near the legs than the common buzzard. They are however very similar and often, especially if in flight and distant, it is easy to confuse them.
The rough-legged buzzard, however, has another distinctive sign: it has more contrasting colors and has a beautiful and characteristic much lighter chest.
