Nonostante la Scania rappresenti un luogo ideale per l’avvistamento dei grandi rapaci tra cui diverse specie di aquile, è piuttosto raro avere la possibilità di ammirare l’aquila della steppa in quanto, solitamente, vive nelle steppe del Caucaso, Mar Caspio e Asia centrale

Quando così si è diffusa la notizia di questo insolito arrivo, non potevo certo perdere l’occasione di andare alla ricerca di questo splendido esemplare. E se vedere la mia prima aquila della steppa è stato già un’avvenimento speciale, trovarla vicino ad un esemplare di aquila di mare è stato sicuramente qualcosa di ancora più insolito e per questo spettacolare.

Di dimensioni decisamente più piccole (l’aquila della steppa ha una lunghezza che va dai 62 agli 81 cm, un’apertura alare compresa tra i 165 e 200 cm e un peso che va dai 2 ai 4,9 kg; l’aquila di mare, invece, ha una lunghezza che va dai 66 ai 94 cm, un’apertura alare che può raggiungere i 245 cm e un peso fino a 7 kg) sembrava decisamente intimorita dalla lontana parente, la quale, ha anche deciso di sorvolarla per dimostrare, forse, la sua grandezza e maestosità.

Poi sono rimaste insieme e vicine in quel campo: che si saranno dette?

Although Scania is an ideal place for sighting large birds of prey including several species of eagles, it is rather rare to have the chance to admire the steppe eagle as it usually lives in the steppes of the Caucasus, Caspian Sea and Central Asia

When the news of this unusual arrival spread, I certainly could not miss the opportunity to go in search of this splendid specimen. And if seeing my first steppe eagle was already a special event, finding it near a specimen of white tailed eagle was certainly something even more unusual and therefore spectacular.

Of decidedly smaller dimensions (the steppe eagle has a length ranging from 62 to 81 cm, a wingspan of between 165 and 200 cm and a weight from 2 to 4.9 kg; the white tailed eagle, on the other hand, has a length ranging from 66 to 94 cm, a wingspan that can reach 245 cm and a weight of up to 7 kg) it seemed decidedly awed by the distant relative, who also decided to fly over it to demonstrate , perhaps, its grandeur and majesty.
