La regione Skåne, la più meridionale della Svezia, è un vero e proprio paradiso per gli amanti dell’avifauna (e non solo), sia perché qui si possono trovare 192 delle 250 specie di uccelli presenti nel Paese, sia perché è un punto di transito importantissimo – forse il più importante d’Europa – durante i flussi migratori: basti pensare che proprio qui sono state avvistate 359 specie diverse che utilizzano la regione come punto di appoggio durante i loro trasferimenti.
Il nibbio reale (milvus milvus) non è un uccello migratore, ma stazionario, e dopo essersi quasi estinto negli anni 70, è diventato adesso il rapace più comune nello Skåne, tanto da essere considerato l’uccello simbolo della regione.
Essendo così numeroso, non è difficile avvistarlo volteggiare su campi arati e verdi pascoli alla ricerca di cibo come piccoli mammiferi, rettili, ma anche pesci.
In una mia recente uscita ho avuto anche la fortuna di trovarne due appollaiati su un albero intenti a farsi le pulizie mattutine del loro piumaggio, e visto che non sembravano affatto infastiditi dalla mia presenza, ne ho approfittato per qualche scatto.

The Skåne region, the southernmost of Sweden, is a real paradise for bird-watchers, both because here you can find 192 of the 250 bird species that breed in the country, and because it’s a very important point – probably the most important in Europe – of the European migration route and 359 different bird species have been spotted here during their passage.
The red kite (milvus milvus) is not following this migration route, but it’s a stationary bird which, after being almost extinct in the 70s, it has now become the most common bird of prey in Skåne, so much so that it is considered the bird of the region.
Being so numerous, it is not difficult to spot it circling over plowed fields and green pastures in search of food like small mammals, reptiles, but also fish.
In one of my latest photo-hunting trip, I’ve been lucky to spot also two of them on a tree while lining their plumage, and because they didn’t look bothered at all, I took advantage and got some shots.
